Incredibly relaxing vacation
J & K (Nashville, TN)
Date of Stay: June 16-25, 2010

We rented the cottage between June 16-25th 2011. Juan was an absolutely amazing resource for our trip, he picked us up from the airport late at night, promptly got the ac fixed after the power went out on the island, called to check on us during our stay, and dropped us off to the airport very early on a saturday! We never felt worried about anything during our entire trip, as he offered to be our 24/7 resource, even when we ventured off the beaten path in the south of the island!  He gave us directions, a handy guide, and overall, is a true gem!!

The cottage was beautiful, and way more than adequate for the 2 of us, we enjoyed the beach chairs and towels which were thoughtfully present, the great surroundings including the fun iguanas, the pool and palapa, and the large mango tree that dropped fresh mangoes for breakfast the entire time we were there!!

Restaurant-wise: we tried marina pirata, flying fishbones, zee-rovers, driftwood, etc. Far and away, our favorite was the simple Rum Reef bar and restaurant located at JADS dive center next to Baby Beach. There portions are large, menu simple and prices way more affordable than anywhere else. J.P. (incidentally the owner), was very kind in fitting us with appropriate masks and snorkels, and his crew were friendly the entire time we were there. A great place to go for lunch after swimming in the ocean to the South of the cottage. A small place called House of Cake located before you get to the Wendy’s when headed south from the cottage has amazing cake slices with really good icecream, and we enjoyed their hospitality often as well.

Overall, we had an incredibly relaxing vacation in Aruba, made possible by your beautiful property at Windsong. Thank you very much for allowing us to stay there!!

We stayed for 10 days at the Villa and were very impressed with the house, the pool, and the location next to a beach and the lovely sunsets. The neighborhood was quiet and fun to walk around, with stores and restaurants nearby. The house was lovely with all the amenities you need. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms quiet, with air conditioning if needed. The property manager was very helpful and answered any questions we had. In all, it was a lovely experience and we would definitely go back and highly recommend both the villa and cottage to others!

I arrived alone in Aruba a day ahead of the rest of my travel party and was promptly picked up by the Brown’s at the airport. Although I was also met with the most unfortunate weather (heavy rain for several days!–very rare) the Browns really helped to make my trip fun, fulfilling and relaxing. The customer service they provided went well above and beyond anything I had ever expected!

I was given lots of education on the island history and layout, taken on a tour, enjoyed wonderful conversation, and was overall welcomed as if I were family. While enduring the heavy rains, Michael suggested a try at scuba diving (You’re already wet!) I’m sure he didn’t anticipate that I would have an anxiety attack(s) due to my fear of open water; despite that, he worked with me ever so patiently until I overcame my fear and became scuba certified! What a great feeling!

The Windsong property is gorgeous both inside and out (even when it’s raining!). It’s clean, open layout, spacious bedrooms/bathrooms that are newly remodeled, everything in working condition and the best part is it’s proximity to the water/beach with plenty of Palapas (beach huts). It’s a great place for yoga, scuba, snorkel, wading, swimming, shell collecting, etc! The best part is no crowds.

Windsong is also close to several grocery stores and delicious restaurants (marina pirata and fishbone–although it’s pricey it’s great!). The neighborhood is pleasant and even the neighbors are warm and welcoming! The roads are great to run on too.

Overall the Browns and Juan were an impressive trio. I can’t thank Michael and Lois enough for their hospitality and generosity. They are so polite and helpful and really just such warm people that I feel honored to know! I can’t wait to return and see what it’s like when the sun is out for more than a few minutes at a time!

You have to see this villa to believe it, it is that great. The villa has everything you need: dishwasher, oven, microwave, washing machine, dryer, pool, jacuzzi, bbq, car and one of the greatest views you van imagine. We were in the villa for 2 weeks with 5 adults and 2 young children (1y, 3y). The pool and jacuzzi were used every day. It’s wonderful to dine in the garden, right next to the bbq. We also rented the car with the villa and used it every day.

Aruba has much to offer: diving (also right in front of the villa), deep sea fishing, a helicopter ride (not even that expensive), sailing trips, more beaches, shopping in Oranjestad and much more. But there is no need to go anywhere else to have a great holiday if you stay in this villa: You only have to walk 50 meters to the sea to snorkel (and dive) and 50 more meters to the beach (Mangel Halto) between the mangrove trees. The sunsets are unbelievable and don’t forget to watch the thunderstorms over Venezuela from the porch every night. Enjoy the bbq (it’s huge, for European standards) or go to one of the excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood.

The villa is located perfect for trips across the island: Oranjestad is only 15 minutes away and the high rise area only 20 minutes. Baby beach is also only 15 minutes away. Last but definitely not least: your personal on site manager Juan will make sure that from the minute you arrive at the airport till the minute you leave you will feel right at home. Forget hotel personnel: this is the way you want to be treated. Juan will attend to your personal needs. He knows the island and has lots of tips.

This place is truly a paradise!

We had the vacation of a lifetime in Aruba, and the villa was just wonderful. It was impeccably clean when we arrived, and everything was in working order. It was great to be able to step out the front door and be right at the beach! We enjoyed everything about the villa, like the pool, the shady outdoor seating area in back, the gourmet kitchen, and the relaxing living room. Juan was wonderfully helpful, even driving us to dinner and back the first night. This place was extra-special for us because we got engaged the first night! We can’t wait to come back, and have already been telling all our friends to come here.

Had a great time here. Took our lawn chairs across the road each a.m. to watch the turtles and pelicans. Had fun exploring the island, getting lost and finding our way back again. We experienced New Years which was very loud and bright. Thanks for a great place to hang our hats for 2 weeks.

Hi, Mike and Lois. Thank you very much for everything. We really appreciate all the time you talked with us about all the things Aruba has to offer. We love Windsong Villa and will definitely be back. You have a beautiful home. Every morning we got up and opened the doors to a spectacular view. This is our first time not staying in a hotel, and your place spoiled us. Juan was great, too! He was always a phone call away, and really helped us out. Thanks again.

Stay at Windsong Cottage

My husband and I stayed at Windsong Cottage for 3 weeks and enjoyed our stay tremendously. We especially loved how close the beach was, across the street. The beach was perfect to sit and read under one of the many palapas (sort of a tiki hut), which provided shade from the sun. The beach is a bit rocky but this is probably the best area in all of Aruba to snorkel. The location of Windsong is about 10-15 minutes from downtown and another 5-10 minutes to the Low Rise and High Rise Resorts, so I’d recommend renting a car.

The owners of Windsong, Lois and Mike, were vacationing at the same time we were staying at their guest cottage and we totally enjoyed their hospitality. They were gracious enough to take us site seeing on the island and I think this was one of our most favourite days. Yes, Aruba is ONE HAPPY ISLAND, and we can’t wait to return.

We regret writing this review!

So why do we regret writing this review – because we wanted to be selfish and not share this jewel! But we can’t do that to Mike, Lois and Juan. From the moment we booked the cottage, making arrangements with Mike and Lois, they were always willing to answer any questions we threw at them from currency, comfort or church concerns. We arrived October 13, 2010 for two weeks and were met at the airport by Juan, who truly epitomizes Aruba’s slogan “one happy island”. What a joy to start our holiday with his bright, sincere smile and laugh. A true gentleman and a great ambassador for Aruba.

The cottage served our purposes exactly as planned. We returned to Aruba to go snorkeling and Windsong’s location is literally across the road from the ocean. Mangel Halto (the name of the snorkeling spot across the street) was fantastic…we were snorkeling with barracudas (we tested the theory not to wear jewellery and did; sure enough they came around! We didn’t do that again!), beautiful parrot fish, scores of large and small varieties, squid and even a sunken boat. We visited many of the suggested snorkeling beaches and found this and Baby Beach (not on weekends though – too busy) to be our favourites.

Interesting to travel the island and see it’s diversities in both terrain and cultures. We preferred the quiet relaxed atmosphere of the area to the hotel area at the other end of the island. There are sufficient food stores around so we had our dinners under the palapa, usually cooked on the bbq. It was always warm with a gentle breeze. The pool was certainly a welcome necessity as the daytimes are hot and sunny as guaranteed. So relaxing! And as we had the whole property for ourselves for the first ten days, we also appreciated the privacy but even when other guests arrived there was still enough privacy for a romantic two weeks. The iguanas and lizards (crabs at night) on the property are fun to watch. We would recommend a vehicle to get around for a few days just to see things. Enough said. Now we know why we regret writing this review! It was twelve years since our last visit – it won’t be that long before our next!

My husband and I stayed at Windsong Cottage for 2 weeks – April 3-17, 2010. We can sum it up by saying that it was such a relaxing enjoyable vacation. We totally enjoyed getting to know the owners Michael and Lois Brown who live on the property. My husband even attained his scuba diving certification from Michael who is a scuba diving instructor.

The cottage is totally equipped with pretty much everything we needed to live and to make a few meals. The bed was very comfie! The pool was relaxing and cooling after a long day of sightseeing or laying on the beach. A pool cleaner comes twice a week. Michael and Lois are open to suggestions and asked us if we thought that the cottage would benefit from anything. We made the suggestion that a loveseat or comparable piece of furniture would go good in the room to sit in and read or watch TV. Well, they emailed us within 2 days of us leaving and sent a picture of the beautiful wicker style loveseat that they bought for the room. They also were great to get directions from or just some ideas on restaurants, grocery stores and sightseeing spots. They also provide an information package in the cottage which we used as a guide. Overall we really enjoyed Aruba. We can honestly say that we enjoyed every meal that we ate in the restaurants. It is truly what their licence plates say; “One Happy Island”. We were glad to see that the locals were able to access all the beaches because they’re all open to the public. I guess that’s one of the reasons why it’s “One Happy Island”!!
